SHARJAH: After the recent T10 League success, Sharjah Cricket Stadium is all set to play host to the Afghanistan series against Zimbabwe in the first week of February.
The world class stadium, which holds the Guinness Records for hosting the highest number of one-day internationals, has been the home ground to Afghanistan since 2010 after UAE’s cricket patron Abdulrahman Bukhatir made the announcement considering the difficulties they were facing in their country.
The series will feature two Twenty20 Internationals on Feb.5 and 6 and the five one-day internationals which will begin on Feb.9 followed by 11, 13, 16 and 19.
The inaugural T10 League, which saw Kerala Kings emerged as champions, witnessed packed crowd for all the matches.
The same is expected for the Afghanistan series considering the huge fan base they have in the UAE.
Afghanistan, along with Ireland, who were confirmed as Full Members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) last June, have received overwhelming crowds every time they have played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Fans favourite and swashbuckling wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Shahzad will also make his return.
The experienced player has played 59 ODIs and 57 T20Is for Afghanistan.
