Market Now: Telecom stocks decline; Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular down 1%
Reliance Industries, Coal India, Tata Steel and Tata Motors were among the top drags on the Sensex kitty of stocks.
NEW DELHI: Telecom stocks extended their fall on Tuesday after TRAI, on Friday, indicated a reduction in international call termination charges (ITC) by 0.3 rupee a minute from 0.53 rupee, effective February 1.

The BSE Telecom was trading 1 per cent down at 1,627 around 1 pm (IST).

Shares of Himachal Futuristic Communications (down 5.18 per cent), GTL Infrastructure (down 4.16 per cent), Aksh Optifibre (down 3.79 per cent), OnMobile Global (down 3.46 per cent), Tata Communications (down 2.69 per cent), GTL (down 2.60 per cent), ITI (down 2.08 per cent), Bharti Airtel (down 1.37 per cent), Vindhya Telelinks (down 1.05 per cent) and Idea Cellular (down 0.91 per cent) were among the top losers in the index.

However, shares of Reliance Communications (up 2.22 per cent), Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) (up 0.39 per cent) and Sterlite Technologies (up 0.13 per cent) were trading with gains in the telecom index around that time.

Benchmark BSE Sensex was 11 points down at 34832, while the NSE Nifty50 index was 21 points down at 10,720.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 13 were trading in the green, while 37 were in the red.

IT stocks including Infosys, Wipro and Tata Consultancy Services were leading the Sensex index.

Reliance Industries, Coal India, Tata Steel and Tata Motors were among the top drags on the Sensex kitty of stocks.
