WORCESTER - In a recipe for rough road conditions, water is bubbling through the pavement near the top of Hammond Street and flowing down to Main Street as well as toward Beacon Street.
The water has caused an icy mess on Main Street, especially near Family Dollar, making it difficult to access the store's parking lot. Sidewalks in the area are treacherous, with a thick coating of ice.
Tuesday afternoon, a Worcester public works crew was scraping the ice buildup from Hammond Street. Another crew was checking out a storm drain on Hammond Street.
Two large metal plates were placed over the leak.
