Marwan Koukash has handed the club over to a consortium of fans, leading to question marks on how the club will run.

Some supporters are also under-whelmed at the club’s recruitment, following the exit of a string of big name players.

But coach Watson insists the club is on the right track - and could improve on last year’s fourth-place finish.

He said: “It has been said that we will finish 12th but I am happy for people to have that opinion, it is up to them.

“Marwan financed the club for a number of years and that’s the biggest challenge, not being able to spend up to the salary cap now.

“But I am pretty sure we have recruited well and we can have a really successful season.

Chief executive Ian Blease will still run the club, day-to-day, and it has yet to be decided how much involvement the new board’s trustees will have.

But Watson added: “It’s the unknown but I am not focussing on the trustee board, all I can worry about is doing my job well.”

Meanwhile, newly promoted Hull KR have suffered a huge blow with the loss of utility forward Danny Addy.

The 26-year-old Scotland star could miss the entire season after suffering a knee injury in Sunday’s friendly win over Hull.
