Suspect fatally shot by Bedford police officer as he reportedly reached for a weapon

A suspect was fatally shot Tuesday morning by a police officer as he appeared to reach for a weapon, police said.

The name of the male suspect had not been released.

No officers were injured.

The shooting occurred about 4:30 a.m. after police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a grocery store parking lot. Officers were dispatched to the Albertsons, 1300 Airport Freeway, but the suspect drove away from officers.

Police located the suspect's vehicle in the 600 block of Hurst Drive.

"While attempting contact, the suspect reportedly reached for a weapon," police Lt. Kirk Roberts said in a Tuesday news release. "One officer fired, striking the suspect."

Police did not comment on whether a weapon was found.

Officers administered cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, but the suspect died at the scene.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the fatal shooting.

No information was released about the officer involved. Police did not release any other details.
