Rangers down Laker girls despite balanced DL scoring

Detroit Lakes got balance scoring and were solid from the charity stripe but it was not enough to defeat the Rangers on the road in an 83-67 Mid-State Conference loss in girls basketball Friday night.

“We were able to cut the lead to 10 multiple times in the second half,” Lakers’ head coach Tom Vagle said.

Despite a solid night offensively, DL could not get back within striking distance down the stretch.

“ It was great to have four girls score in the double digits,” said Vagle. “I was very proud of the girls for shooting 28 for 32 from the free-throw line. The team has been working on their free throws a great deal in practice.”

DL’s output of 67 points scored was a high for the season through a dozen games.

Bre Price continued to lead the Lakers scoring a team-high 27 points. Ellie Lunde scored 13 points; Lauren Tschider added 12 and Lauryn Manning scored 11.

The Rangers’ Shyanne Loiland led all scorers with 30 points; Lily Peterson added 21.

C-I had a 12-point cushing on the scoreboard making five three-point baskets to only one by DL.

The Rangers improve to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the Mid-State. DL falls to 1-11 and 0-4 and play next at home against Fergus Falls (10-3) Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 6 p.m.
