College athletics: Five ONU athletes earn OAC player of week honors

ADA — Five Ohio Northern University athletes were honored by the Ohio Athletic Conference as players of the week in their respective sports for their efforts last week.
Junior Ryan Bruns was named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 8-14. He led ONU in a pair of wins that improved the Polar Bears to 11-4, 6-2 OAC. Bruns had career highs of 41 points and 17 rebounds against Muskingum, and 21 points and six rebounds against Baldwin Wallace. Bruns is 74 points shy of reaching the 1,000-point milestone in his career.
Senior Amy Bullimore was named the OAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the second consecutvie week. She led ONU (14-1, 8-0 OAC) to wins over Baldwin Wallace with 22 points and 13 rebounds, and Muskingum with 19 points and nine rebounds. She is three points away from tying Morgan (Dumbaugh) Bass for ONU’s top career scorer, and 30 rebounds from becoming ONU’s all-time leader.
Senior Alex Bair was named the OAC Wrestler of the Week. He posted a 4-0 record this week at the Lycoming (Pa.) Duals. He had a pin, a tech fall, a major decision and a decision at the Lycoming Duals and was named the tourney’s top wrestler at 184 pounds.
Senior Braden Kuhn was the OAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week. He won the 1-meter (280.85 points) and 3-meter (258.15) diving events in a win over Mount Union, Kuhn surpassed the NCAA DIvision III automatic qualifying standard of 275 points in the 1-meter event.
Senior Sydney Veon was named the OAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week. She won the 100-meter breaststroke (1:08.63), 50 freestyle ()25.66) and 100 free (56.56) and was part of ONU’s winning 200 medley relay quartet in a victory over Mount Union.
