Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rajasthan’s Barmer on Tuesday where he will inaugurate the commencement of work of an oil refinery at Pachpadra, whose foundation stone was laid by former Congress president Sonia Gandhi four years ago. The Congress had slammed the state government last week for re-laying of the foundation stone, saying it had already been performed four years ago by Sonia Gandhi.

Termed as ‘shilanyas karyakram’ earlier, former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot had criticised the present chief minister Vasundhara Raje for changing the function’s name.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted out saying the Barmer Refinery and Petrochemicals Project of HRRL will bring an unprecedented surge in infrastructure development, improvement of healthcare services, establishment of prestigious education institutions in Western Rajasthan.

Here are the highlights:

2:50 pm: This is a time for ‘Sankalp se Siddhi.’ We must focus on our aims and work towards achieving them by 2022, when we mark 75 years of freedom, says PM Modi.

2:40 pm: Remember how much problems one faced to get a gas cylinder? One had to go to MPs for a letter. Many MPs sold coupons in black. It was not acceptable to me that women of India should suffer due to lack of cooking gas facilities, says PM Modi.

2:30 pm: For them, ‘Garibi Hatao’ was an attractive slogan. They nationalized the banks but the doors of the banks never opened for the poor. Jan Dhan Yojana changed this and the poor got access to banking facilities, says PM Modi.

2:20 pm: For 40 years nothing was done about OROP. Before 2014 elections a symbolic amount was allocated even when it was known this sum is just too less. It was our commitment to make OROP a reality and we worked towards making that possible, says PM Modi.

2:15 pm: When we assumed office, one of the first things we did was to see what work has been done on promises in Railway Budget. Just for applause in Parliament, some people made promises they could never keep. We were determined to end that culture of misleading, says PM Modi.

2:10 pm: The way in which Vasundhara Ji tackled drought crisis during both her terms, and helped people is praiseworthy. It is in contrast to the opposition in the state, whose poor drought management in Rajasthan is widely known, says PM Modi.

2:00 pm: Congress aur aakaal (drought) judwa bhai hain, jahan Congress jayegi wahan aakaal jayega, says PM Modi.

1:55 PM: As soon as Israel PM landed in India, both of us went to teen murti chowk first, its build in memory of Major Dalpat Shekhawat, we commemorated Rajasthan’s history of valour, says PM Modi.

1:50 pm: I am elated to be in Rajasthan that too for a project that will bring happiness and prosperity to the lives of many, says PM Modi.
