The police team, probing the alleged forcible conversion of a 25-year-old woman with the intention of taking her to Syria and join the ISIS, will soon be leaving for Bengaluru for further investigation.
The police have now approached the Principal Sessions Court in Ernakulam seeking custody of Fayas and Siyad, natives of North Paravur who were arrested in connection with the case. “They will be taken to a few places including North Kerala and Bengaluru, where Muhammad Riyas, the key accused had stayed,” said a senior officer with the Ernakulam Rural police.
The police have confirmed that Riyas and his mother Seenath are currently staying in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. They, however, are yet to trace the exact location of Abdul Rasheed.
The police have sought the passport details of Riyas and his mother so as to issue a look-out circular against them.
Investigations so far have pointed to the involvement of a network behind the forcible conversion of the woman and arraigned more persons, mostly from North Kerala and Karnataka, as accused in the case.
With preliminary investigation pointing to the alleged ISIS links of the accused, the police now expect the National Investigation Agency to take over the case.
The woman, who claimed to have escaped from the custody of her husband Riyas from Saudi Arabia after being locked up in an apartment in Jeddah for over 80 days, alleges after reaching Saudi Arabia Riyas made her watch videos of Islamic preacher Zakir Naik and attempted to take her to Syria.
The woman also alleged that she had been blackmailed into conversion by her husband.
