To the Editor: Is Sullivan a pawn a carpetbagger or both?

To the Editor:

It appears that a carpetbagger has rolled into the Granite State in an unseemly attempt to wrestle away one of our two congressional seats in order to help achieve the Democratic National Committee’s 2018 partisan takeover of Congress at the expense of the people of New Hampshire.

It has been reported that in nine short weeks Democrat candidate Maura Sullivan has raised an amazing amount of money from Barack Obama operatives in Illinois and from liberals from New York to the left coast.

According to her FEC filings, Sullivan has already raised an impressive $430,000 for her political war chest. There have been approximately 1,720 different contributors to her coffers. Upon close scrutiny 1,376 contributors, 80 percent of the money, came from outside New Hampshire.

One should wonder about the veracity of her claim on Fosters.com (http://bit.do/Sullivanforcongress) that running for Congress “was the furthest thing from my mind.” when she moved to Rye only seven months ago. The highly respected Cook Political Report mentioned in May of 2017 that Sullivan was considering a run for an Illinois Congressional seat. It appears that her Chicago-based community organizer might have suggested that it would be preferable for her to attempt to slide into the open seat in New Hampshire?

As a true blue Granite Stater, with 12 generations of family roots here, I get put out when pawns of partisan connivers attempt to present themselves as one of us after living here for less than one year. I encourage Sullivan to get involved with public service at a local level before pretending that she knows about this district that includes much more than her political idea of her new home. Even if her partisan handlers disrespects New Hampshire’s political sovereignty anyone desiring to make this their home should honor the tradition of our renowned independence.

Although I would enjoy debating her for the general election in November democrats have much better choices than this newcomer. Both democratic candidates Mark MacKenzie and Chris Pappas have much more experience, credentials and understanding of New Hampshire than this unprepared, but well-financed carpetbagger/pawn from Illinois.

Mark Hounsell, D-1 Republican candidate for Congress.
