News about gang-rape in India’s Bulandshahar district shattered me and I thought to start a women empowering programme,” said Srishti Bakshi, founder of CrossBow Miles  and Empower Women Champion for Change 2016-2017.

Srishti Bakshi is in Bhopal with the team, continuing their foot journey from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Talking to media persons on Monday Srishti said that this initiative is all about empowering women at the grass roots level.“After reading about the gang-rape incident, I realized that women in India are not even safe when travelling with their family. This shook me. Moreover people in foreign countries have this thinking that India is not safe for women, this thinking too astounded me. Hence, Cross Bow Miles was founded,” said Srishti.

CrossBow Miles is a foot journey from Kanyakumari to Kashmir covering 3800 kms in over 260 days with a view to make India safer and better for women. Till now the team has covered over 2000 kilometers. The team is conducting workshops with teachers, students, district collectors, State police and rural women as well.

A workshop at Barkatullah University will be organised on Tuesday for the students and teachers.

Talking about the walk, Srishti said, “The walk is aimed at creating awareness across India for women’s safety and empowering them through digital and financial literacy”. Srishti and her team is conducting a mass research on women related issues and has also collaborated with Women Commission to look into different matters.

Speaking on the mission of women safety and empowerment through digital and financial literacy campaign, Srishti said, “Another big reason for women left to fend for themselves who have never learnt to be independent. We hope to awaken more freedom of thought and sow the seeds of lasting change in India.”

She also informed about the CrossBow Miles app, which can also help other people to join the initiative.  The campaign aims to drive awareness in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, which will be the route for her entire walk.
