The new Ford Ranger 2019 has been revealed at the Detroit Auto Show. 

At the North American International Auto Show the updated pickup truck was on display alongside the new Ford Edge ST.

Its design is largely unchanged from the previous generation model. 

The car has been fitted with a slightly smaller front grille and the headlights have been reshaped to freshen up the look and it now sports the Ranger name on the tailgate.

Initially the pickup will go on sale in the US before a variant comes to the UK. 

Production of the SUV will begin later this year before going on sale in 2019.

Powering the new car will be a 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine which will be paired with a 10-speed auto transmission. 

It will be available in both 2WD and 4WD variants and will come in Xl, XLT and Lariat trim options. 

An optional extra for the new car includes the F-150 FX4 Off-Road package which allows power or the brakes to be sent to each wheel while off-roading. 

Another confirmed variant of the Ranger is the 3.0-litre diesel Power Stroke engine which comes with an estimated 30-mpg range. 

Ford reports that this car variant will be capable of towing 11,400 pounds, have a 2,020 payload and produce 250 horsepower and 440lb ft of torque.

Inside the car the infotainment system will be a Sync 3 system which will be up to eight-inches in size. 

Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa will come as standard features alongside a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot. 

A number of driver assistance and safety systems will also be added including a rear-view camera and automatic emergency braking. 

Other optional safety systems include blind spot monitoring, lane assistance and adaptive cruise control.

Prices will be confirmed ahead of it going on sale later this year.
