PayPal Community Gave $1 Billion During 2017 Holiday Season

PayPal has announced that from November 27 through the last day of the year, more than $1 billion was donated to charitable organizations and groups via the online payment system.

In a post shared on LinkedIn, PayPal CEO Dan Schulman said it was the first time the platform had passed $1 billion in giving during the holiday season. Coupled with its results on #GivingTuesday, PayPal saw more than $8.5 billion given to charity in 2017, including a significant number of gifts of $10 or less.

"To everyone who gave this past year and may plan on giving in the year ahead: Thank You," Schulman wrote. "Thanks for doing good and thank you for trusting PayPal to help you do it. 2017 had its challenges, but there is goodness all around us. Here’s hoping for even more of that in 2018."
