Thousands of people thronged Spituk monastery in Leh to witness the yearly enchanting two-day festival, popularly known as Spituk Gustor. This festival is a mark of victory over evil which started in the 11th century. During this festival, monk from different monasteries such as Stok, Sankar, Saboo and Spituk congregate at the monastery for world Peace and Prosperity. The monks wear masks of religious deities and perform a dance, which represents the Protector, Guardian, Gods and Goddesses and mythological stories related to Buddhism. The celebration ends with the dismemberment of a sacrificial cake.
