Mumbai: MHADA to take up Goregaon’s Patrawala Chawl redevelopment project

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has planned to take up the redevelopment project of Patrawala Chawl in Goregaon after the developer failed to follow the rules in the agreement. This move comes after a notice was sent to the developer last week to terminate the agreement.
The redevelopment project is set to provide houses to at least 672 residents from Patrawala Chawl in Goregaon and is located at Siddharth Nagar. The MHADA officials said the developer Guru Ashish Developers Private Limited constructions had failed to follow the rules mentioned in the agreement.

“We signed the agreement with the developer in 2008. The agreement states the time period for completion of project work as 36 months and the developer had failed to follow the rules listed in the agreement,” said a MHADA official. MHADA officials also said the developer appointed another consultant for the project work. The developers had also demolished the tenements and gave temporary rehabilitation for the residents.
The agreement also mentioned the requirement of the developer to pay the rent amount to MHADA for rehabilitating the 672 residents. The agreement also contained details of the share to be given to MHADA, developers share and the number of houses to be given to the tenants.
“The developer had not even paid the rent amount to us. The developer had also failed to follow the rules of the redevelopment project work and constructing the new buildings within 2.28 lakh square metres,” added the official. Last week, the MHADA authorities issued a notice to the developer to terminate the agreement. “We have decided to take up the project after the developer completes the notice period of 30 days,” added the official.
