Why don’t they act as a separate branch of government to check the president? “Senate Republicans are eager for Mitt Romney to succeed retiring Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), with some hoping he will emerge as an independent counterweight to President Trump.”
This was single best retort to Trump. “Cardinal Timothy Dolan on Monday marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day, saying the slain civil rights leader would remind people today that ‘no country is a ‘hole.’
Apart from the Freedom Caucus, isn’t he speaker of the entire House? “Ryan squeezed by conservatives on DACA vote.” There are plenty of votes to pass, if Democrats count.
Maybe he could be the solitary Republican unequivocally to call out those who lied about the meeting. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.): “My memory hasn’t evolved. I know what was said and I know what I said.”
A unique figure in the civil rights movement isn’t going to be intimidate by the likes of this hater. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) recounts: “I was on a flight from Atlanta. And I’m walking down the aisle and the gentleman said as loud as he could, ‘Trump!’ So I didn’t — I just kept walking. I didn’t say anything. And sometimes I’m walking in the airport in different places. I guess [people think] they’re getting to me or harassing me. But they don’t understand … I’ve been called many, many things. But I’m not going to let anything get me down. I’m going to keep walking, keep moving.” Interesting how “Trump” is now a racial epithet.
He alone among modern presidents is an example of mankind’s worst qualities. “President Trump’s first stop Monday was Trump International Golf Club, apparently beginning the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday with golf rather than the charitable service the slain civil rights leader’s family has urged as the best way to memorialize him.”
Probably the only president to be condemned by an entire continent. “African ambassadors in Washington are convening a meeting next week to discuss a response to President Donald Trump’s Oval Office outburst, in which he called Haiti, Central American, and African countries a ‘shithole,’ multiple African diplomats told Foreign Policy.”
