A new web platform called Wangu (Mine) is being launched to connect Zimbabweans with millions of compatriots in the Diaspora, reports the Herald. Businesses in Zimbabwe will be able to use the social chat platform to advertise their brands to people instantly, by location. Wangu uses a data centre powered by TelOne, and has teamed up with NetOne to deliver the service.

Wangu is available for Android devices and will soon be available for iOS. Supa Mandiwanzira, the Minister of Information Communication Technology and Cyber Security, said the Wangu instant messaging app will allow users to chat freely back and forth with individuals and in groups.

Wangu also creates customised publicity for businesses in Zimbabwe that differ from global social media platforms that have become too big to effectively accommodate culturally unique markets. Wangu will provide a platform for Zimbabweans to share locally relevant information with their friends and other Wangu users who have the same interests.
