Mumbai: Arjun, son of deputy general manager P.N. Sreenivasan, who was on board the chopper, said that the family came to know of his father’s death through his mobile that he had left at home.
Arjun (29), senior manager with Deutsche Bank, said, “The last time I met him was on Friday morning (January 12). The next day he went for his monthly offshore visit. I could not meet him as I was sleeping till late.”
He said that by the time he returned from office on Friday night, his parents had gone to bed. “I wish I would have come early. The same day he had called me during work hours and sounded happy, but I could not talk to him for long as both of us were at work.”
Remembering the morning of the accident, he said, “Appa was not allowed to take his phone on the visit. Amma had begun to worry at 10.45 a.m. when we did not receive the customary call from him, that he used to make after reaching office. I calmed her explaining that he must have gotten busy and might call us around lunch.” Arjun then left home on some work.
Fifteen minutes later, Arjun got a call from his mother Jayashree. She had checked her husband’s phone and saw messages on the ONGC WhatsApp group. “She realised that the chopper had crashed. In the meantime, she had called the wives of V.K. Babu and Pankaj Garg.”
