Moreland Garden Club
Anita Roller, Carole Gast and Karen Mann hosted the Moreland Garden Club at the Moreland United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m., with 14 members and two guests present.
Paula Huffman reported that the Sunshine Committee sent floral arrangements to three members. Huffman also noted that the residents at the Wayne County Care Center were delighted with their personalized Christmas gifts. On Jan. 18, club members will assist WCCC members with a winter snow scene craft, and the residents will enjoy hot fudge sundaes.
Jeanne Flickinger was unable to attend, but sent an educational display on Preserving the Ornamental Garden. She included a handout that noted that modern preservation methods can retain the original color well.
Barb Moore presented tips on growing native Ohio grasses.
Anita Roller provided the floral arrangement. To illustrate the theme "Tall and Handsome," she used four different grasses, blue statice and bird-of-paradise leaves in a tall container.
Michele Oliver gave a workshop on creating wreaths with dried grasses.
The February meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m., at Becky Mullen’s home. Becky and Nancy Marthey will host, and Jackie Lewis will review the book Founding Gardeners by Andrea Wulf. Jeanne Durkalski will provide an educational display on Spring Wildflowers of Ohio. Members are to bring a sweet treat for a gift exchange.
