Jess Smith scored 15 points and Carley Lafary added 12 points to lead the West Central High School girls basketball team in a pair of losses on Monday in the Lincoln Trail Conference Tournament at Mercer County High School in Aledo, Illinois.

West Central lost the opening game ton Mercer County, 50-21. Lafary scored eight points to lead the Heat, while Smith added six points.

West Central fell in the second game, 69-25, to Annawan. Smith scored nine points to lead the Heat, while Kailee Yates added seven points.

West Central (6-15) plays Stark County in the Lincoln Trail Conference Tournament at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Aledo, Illinois.

Louisa-Muscatine 58, West Liberty 51

Mariah Pugh poured in 22 points and pulled down 17 rebounds to lead the Falcons to a nonconference road victory.

Kylee Sanders added 18 points, four steals and three assists for the Falcons, while Alexa Wehrle had six rebounds and six assists. Hailey Sanders grabbed eight rebounds for the Falcons.

Louisa-Muscatine (9-6) plays today at Wapello.

BHS freshmen improve to 9-3

The Burlington High School freshman boys basketball team improved to 9-3 with a 79-29 win at Fort Madison on Saturday. Cayson Shipp led the Graypups with 14 points. Mitchell Leinbach added 11 points, while Anakin Kelly and Dontarius Sawyer each scored eight points.

The Graypups host Davenport North at 6 p.m. today.
