DUBAI: Two youths implicated in gangraping a woman under threats to knife her to death will spend 15 years in jail, a court ruled on Sunday.
The unemployed Arab youth, 19, and his compatriot peer, 22, with the help of cohorts referred to the Juveniles Court and an Asian employee, 22, targeted the Kenyan woman on May.3, 2017.
They threatened to knife her countryman to death if he tried to stop them. The unemployed man, his peer and the youths took turns in abusing her while threatening to knife her to death.
The employee tried to have his turn but then fled upon noticing police was coming. During court questioning the trio refuted all charges related with rape and issuing death threats.
The Criminal Court sentenced the unemployed man and his peer to 15 years behind bars. It sentenced the Asian employee to 10 years behind bars after which he (and the peer) will be deported.
The woman, 41, and her countryman, 23, were strolling in Al Quoz industrial area that early morning. The gang of seven youths walked towards her. She ran to the main road. The unemployed man ran and seized her.
A youth (K) dragged her inside their getaway car. They took her to a nearby dark sandy area and disrobed her. The peer clutched her. The unemployed man, the peer and K abused her in turns.
Her countryman –a security guard- said four of them threatened him with death. The peer kept brandishing a knife and threatening to fatally stab him if he tried to intervene. K brandished a rock threatening to smash his head.
An Emirati warrant officer said the first five defendants including the trio confessed to the death threats and gangrape. An Emirati lieutenant said police combed the area and landed on a medium-size knife.
