Expressing concern over the series of gangrape and murders in Haryana in last one week, opposition parties—Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Congress have demanded resignation of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for his Government’s failure to curb incidents of heinous crime against women.

The leader of opposition and INLD’s senior leader Abhay Singh Chautala  expressed shock and concern at the rising incidents of rapes and murders of young girls in the State, Chautala said that the BJP led Haryana Government has failed to keep a check on crime in the State.

Referring to the heinous rape and murder cases in Kurukshetra and Panipat, the INLD leader said that such incidents has caused panic among the people of Haryana. The BJP Government has failed to provide security to its citizens and thus, has no right to remain in power, added Chautala.

Three cases of rape -- including two of minor girls -- were reported in the past one week in Haryana.

A 15-year-old class X student in Kurukshetra district was gang-raped and her private parts were mutilated after her murder in adjoining Jind district. The victim was reported missing on January 9 after she left her home for tuition.

In a separate incident, an 11-year-old dalit girl was raped and murdered allegedly by her two neighbours in Panipat district on Saturday night. A 22-year-old woman was abducted and gang-raped by four unidentified men in an SUV in Faridabad.

Lashing out at the BJP Government, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda alleged that the Government has failed on all fronts and the law and order situation has completely broken down in Haryana.

Hooda further said that in Haryana, the children are neither safe in schools nor in their homes.

On the other hand, Haryana Congress president Ashok Tanwar has also hit out at the State Government. The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative of BJP Government has failed completely as they have failed to save the daughters of the country, said he.

Senior Congress leader and party’s communication in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala has also condemned the series of gangrape and murders in Haryana and described that as a vivid example of the all round failure of the Khattar Government.

Referring to the NCRB data released recently, Surjewala said that the state has reported huge increase in number of murders, rapes, gang-rapes, kidnapping and abductions. During the year 2016, Haryana reported 1090 murder, 1189 rape, 191 gang rape, 4,019 kidnapping and abduction incidents, which comes to about three murders, three rapes and 11 kidnapping and abduction incidents on an average day, said he.
