A 19-year-old spectator was gored to death in the Jallikkattu event at Palamedu in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu on Monday. The youth, a resident of Dindigul district, had come to witness the traditional bull-taming sport, which has injured 25 persons till now this year. One of the injured is reported to be serious.
The Animal Welfare Board of India, the body entrusted with the conducting of smooth and safe Jallikkattu event, had withdrawn all the observers from the venues before the commencement of the controversial game, which last year saw 14 persons getting gored to death by the charging bulls.
