MIDDLETOWN, R.I. — A BMW sport-utility vehicle has been frozen in an icy parking lot at Second Beach since Saturday.

That section of the parking lot is low and can flood, said Lt. Timothy Beck. Cars sometimes drive through the water and have stalled, but none has ever gotten frozen in.

“It must have stalled out and now it’s stuck,” Beck said. “It’s in the parking lot, so we’re just going to leave it there and when things thaw out, they can move it.”

Two other cars got stuck in the water on Saturday, but were removed before temperatures dropped and the ice froze.

The frozen-in car was first reported by WJAR, which showed pictures of the SUV with ice about halfway up its wheels.
