Metabolic syndrome topic GRHS program

WEST BURLINGTON — Great River Health System’s new educational series for women and men begins at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 25, with a presentation by physician Michael AbouAssaly, medical director of the health system’s Healthy Living Clinic.

AbouAssaly will discuss metabolic syndrome, a group of common conditions that can increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

Light snacks will be available. The registration deadline is Jan. 22. Visit GreatRiverMedical.org/events or call (319) 768-3300. Program registration will open the first day of each month. The February program topic will be heart health.

HCHC to host diabetes class

MOUNT PLEASANT — Henry County Health Center’s Diabetes Team will offer a diabetes education class from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 23 for anyone who has Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.

Meals will be served to class participants and their guest. There is a fee for the class, however, many insurance plans will cover the program.
