To give a boost to the tourism sector in the State, the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board (PHTPB) and Panjab University, Chandigarh, on Monday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU was signed by PHTPB CEO Shivdular Singh Dhillon and PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Grover.
The move is aimed at giving a big boost to the tourism sector in Punjab as part of the series of measures being undertaken by the Cultural Affairs and Tourism Department under Cultural Affairs and Tourism Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, said Dhillon adding that no stone is being left unturned to make Punjab a frontline state in terms of tourism sector.
“With the signing of this MoU, both the institutions would forge a long term partnership keeping mutual sharing of expertise in the prime focus. Besides this, a series of activities would also be chalked out to give fillip to tourism in the State,” he said.
Dhillon said that the University would give academic as well as the intellectual inputs whereas the PHTPB would chip in with the financial and infrastructural assistance.
PU would furthermore initiate, in tandem with the PHTPB, many development-centric projects and the refresher or orientation courses.
Apart from this, short-term certificate courses would also be started in order to enhance the capacity building in tourism sphere for which the PHTPB would render every assistance.
PHTPB would conduct internship programmes or job training for the students of the university. It is also worth mentioning that recently a similar MoU was signed with the Punjabi University, Patiala.
