Mayurbhanj literary body holds Makar Milan

The Mayurbhanj Sahitya Parishad, one of the premier literarary organisations of north Odisha, held its Makar Milan and Fakir Mohan Jayanti at the Maharshi Vidya Mandir premises here on Sunday being presided over by Parishad president Ajit Kumar Kabat.

Parishad general secretary Ashish Kumar Basa gave introductory remarks while Lecturer Gopabandhu Mohanta was chief guest and engineer Bhagirathi Parida chief speaker.

The speakers dwelt on the Makar Sankranti festivities in Mayurbhanj district and on the different aspects of Vyasakavi Fakir Mohan Senapati’s literature.

A Kavi Sammelan and release of a book entitled “Ma Dwarasuninka Kahani” describing the greatness and glory of one of the presiding deities of Mayurbhanj were also held on the occasion. Besides Somanath Naik, the author of the book, many other Mayurbhanj writers including Dr Sirish Chandra Parida, Dr Shashidhar Biswal and Dr Vichitrananda Sahu participated in the programme.
