Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana Kanwar Pal Singh, Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh, among others expressed grief over the demise of Punjab Congress’ vice-president and former MP Satnam Singh Kainth on Monday.
Kainth, who passed away at a private hospital in Mohali a day before after a prolonged illness at the age of 57, is survived by his wife and two sons.
Capt Amarinder, in a condolence message, recalled Kainth’s immense contribution in Punjab politics, especially for championing the cause of downtrodden sections of the society, and working pro-actively to uplift the lives of the poor, needy and disadvantaged.

Pertinently, Kainth had also served as the Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha in 1992-97 and was also elected a Member Parliament from Phillaur Lok Sabha constituency in 1998.
