Kite festival draws crowd

Kites in various size, shapes and hues, foot tapping music by DJs and Rajasthani delicacies welcomed scores of people, who participated in the kite festival held as part of Sankranti festival near the Gokul Park.

The Grand Kite Festival, organised by the Agarwal Mahasabha, had something to offer to all the participants.

The kites dotting the skyline over the beach caught the attention of passers-by. The event came in as a big relief for parents to spend quality time with their kids in flying the kites.

There was bonhomie and family bonding and children had a gala time in watching and flying the kites. Kite sellers did brisk business selling the kites and thread bundles. Kites designed like eagles and bats flying in the sky, a snake, some with multiple tails and some others resembling caught the fancy of children.

“This is the eighth year we are organising this festival. Next year, we are planning to host the Great Andhra International Kite Festival, provided the government supports our initiative,” Agarwal Mahasabha joint secretary and event organiser Naresh Agarwal said.

Children and women danced to the tunes of new and old melodies. The festival crowd enjoyed hot kesar jalebi, samosa, kachori, dhokla, pani puri, ice gola, special masala mori from Kolkata and chola bhatura.
