A BOXING champion is behind bars accused of driving over a woman and holding her hostage in a domestic violence ordeal.

Olympian Damien Duncan Hooper, who fought on the Jeff Horn-Manny Pacquiao undercard last July, is also accused of gagging the woman and threatening her with a machete-style knife.

Police will allege Hooper also used a cigarette to burn the woman, who is known to him, and ripped the door off a Toowoomba home.

Hooper, 25, was arrested on December 3 and is expected to ask Brisbane Supreme Court to grant him bail on Friday morning.

He was charged with deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm and dangerous driving.

The light-heavyweight boxer faced other domestic violence charges, including wilful damage and strangulation.

Police will allege the violence began on Monday November 27, after an argument.

At one point, Hooper allegedly got in a car with a child and started making threats.

The wilful damage charge followed an allegation Hooper pulled the door off a home he was trying to get into in Newtown.

Police will claim Hooper threatened the woman with a machete-style knife and compelled her to get into a car.

He allegedly took the woman to a Toowoomba unit and gagged her, prompting the strangulation charge.

Police will also allege Hooper punched the woman in the face at one point and burnt her with a cigarette.

The alleged offending continued into November 28.

Police will also allege Hooper pushed the woman out of a car then drove over her, striking her legs.

The woman was admitted to Toowoomba Base Hospital with leg injuries.

Police were alerted to the allegations on December 3 and arrested Hooper the same day.

Hooper voluntarily accompanied police to Toowoomba station.

The day after, police executed a search warrant on property including a car.

A weapon was allegedly seized and the vehicle taken for testing.

The bail application showed the Toowoomba man was being detained at Arthur Gorrie prison in Wacol.

Asked if Hooper would fight the charges, staff at the Toowoomba law firm that filed his bail application declined to comment.

After the bail hearing, Hooper is next expected to face Toowoomba Magistrates Court on January 29.

Hooper grew up in Dalby.

In July, he won a surprise victory over WBO and IBF International light-heavyweight champion Umar Salamov.
