One pistol and two 12 bore guns recovered

Security forces attacked a Maoist camp in Rajandangaon district of Chhattisgarh on Monday and gunned down one alleged member of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist).

Prashant Agrawal, Superintendent of Police, Rajnandgaon district, said the operation was conducted by a joint team of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, the Special Task Force and the District Reserve Guard.

Mr. Agrawal said that the team attacked the Maoist camp housing 50 Maoists within Bakarkatta police station limits in the northern part of Rajnandgaon district. In the exchange of fire, one Maoist personnel was killed.

The security forces recovered three weapons and a huge cache of Naxal-related material from the camp. Mr. Agrawal said, “One pistol and two 12 bore guns were recovered. The Maoist belonged to the Vistar Platoon of the CPI (Maoist). Search operations are on in the area.”

Rajnandgaon police said more Maoists are likely to have been killed or injured in the encounter.

The camp was located in Jhilmili forest, about 160 kms from Rajnandgaon, bordering Balaghat area of Madhya Pradesh.
