A woman was found dead and wrapped in plastic early Sunday morning in the small Wayne County suburb of Rockwood, and her partner was arrested at the scene, police said.

The woman's death is considered suspicious until the Wayne County Medical Examiner makes an official ruling, said Rockwood Police Chief Randy Krause. Police responded to a 911 call of a disturbance on the 22600 block of Candace at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday. The area is downriver, south of Gibraltar and west of Interstate 75.

Police arrived to find a man "with blood on his hands, arms and legs," Krause said, who claimed that a woman and children were inside the home with an armed man.

But there were no children and no gunman when police arrived. Police entered the home to find the woman's body wrapped up in plastic. No exact age or cause of death was immediately available, though Krause estimated the woman was in her early 30s. A detective was at the woman's autopsy Monday, Krause said.

The man arrested at the scene is 50 years old. Krause said he and the victim were in "some sort of domestic relationship" and lived together. Neighbors called 911.

"This is a 100 percent isolated incident that could've happened anywhere," Krause said. "There is no danger to the community, and there never was."

Police are investigating.
