NEW YORK (AP) - Anthony Davis scored a season-high 48 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, leading the New Orleans Pelicans back from 19 points down late in the third quarter to a 123-118 overtime victory over the New York Knicks. Jrue Holiday added 31 points and DeMarcus Cousins had 15 points, 16 rebounds, seven steals and five assists and for the Pelicans, who were down 16 after one, even further back late in the third and still down nine with 4 1/2 minutes left in regulation.
PITTSBURGH (AP) - Dominik Simon and Phil Kessel scored milestone goals to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 5-2 victory against the New York Rangers. Simon got the first goal of his NHL career and Kessel scored his 20th of the season for his 700th point on back-to-back goals that put the Penguins ahead for good. Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist and Carl Hagelin also scored as the Penguins got their season high-tying fourth straight win and fifth in six games.
NEW YORK (AP) - Free agent first baseman Adrian Gonzalez and the New York Mets have reached agreement on a one-year contract. The 35-year-old Gonzalez needs to pass a physical to complete the deal. He was limited to 71 games last season because of a herniated disk in his back, and was left off the Los Angeles Dodgers' postseason roster.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - Keita Bates-Diop scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and Ohio State beat Rutgers 68-46 to remain undefeated in Big Ten play this season and tied atop the conference standings. Ohio State built up a 30-point lead after Kam Williams converted on a 4-point play with 13:47 remaining to make it 48-18.
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - Matt Scott scored 23 points, Kahlil Dukes added 21 and the two were the difference down the stretch as Niagara beat Saint Peter's 73-70. Scott's jumper with 1:36 left broke a 70-all tie and Dukes made 1 of 2 free throws with nine seconds to go.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Jermaine Crumpton scored 23 points, Isaiah Reese added 22 and the pair led a big second-half in a 94-79 Canisius victory over Monmouth that kept the Golden Griffins tied atop the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Trailing 45-43 at halftime, Reese scored 14 points and Crumpton 12 in the second half as the Griffins outscored the Hawks 51-34.
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) - Schadrac Casimir scored 15 points, Deyshonee Much 14 and Iona shot 57 percent from the arc in beating Rider 91-64. The Gaels made 16 of 28 3-point tries with Much and Jan Svandrlik, who scored 12 points, sinking four each.
