Designed and engineered in the United States, Acura’s new RDX promises to be the brand’s best-selling vehicle.

The sleek five-passenger SUV uses a new architecture that’s exclusive to Honda’s luxury brand, and will feature a 2.0L turbocharged engine and 10-speed automatic transmission when it goes on sale this summer.

The ’19 RDX’s wheelbase is 2.5 inches longer than the current model. The track is 1.2-inches wider.

The new architecture is lighter and stiffer for better handling and fuel efficiency.

The interior features more passenger room and a standard panoramic sun roof. The unusual control layout consists of a touchpad on the center console linked to a 10.2-inch display screen rising from the dashboard. Acura says the touchpad uses new technology that makes it better to use in a moving vehicle than previous applications by other automakers.

Available features will include adaptive dampers, 16-way power front seats, head-up display and a 710-watt Panasonic ELS sound system with four thin speakers mounted in the headliner.

The RDX is the first vehicle designed from the ground up around the brand’s new pentagonal grille. It’s sleek, with a long hood, flowing lines and a roof that slopes downward to the tailgate.

A sportier looking A-Spec model will be available from launch, the first time Acura’s attached its rakish sub-brand to an SUV.

Honda builds the RDX in East Liberty, Ohio.
