Sanchez has been tipped to leave the Gunners this month after entering the final six of his contract and refusing to sign a new deal.

And a move to the Etihad to reunite with his old Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has been heavily touted after a summer transfer broke down.

United made a shock swoop for Sanchez last week as they attempt to stop City from getting hold of one of the Premier League’s top players.

And an Old Trafford switch now looks most likely as City chiefs seem set to refuse to match Arsenal’s asking price, as well as United’s salary and signing-on bonus offers.

Neville has now taken aim at City on Twitter while discussing Sanchez’s potential move to his old club.

"We both know City will up their offer to him of more [cash emoji]" he said.

"And you will say he chose Pep for less money [winking emoji].

"They actually need to [sign Sanchez] with Aguero on his own at the moment. 

"Business wise it doesn’t make sense to let Alexis go to United.

"It will cost City more in the summer to get another."

Neville’s comments came as he quote-tweeted a post by Sky Sports expert Guillem Balague.

It read: "Alexis Sanchez not fully agreed yet. 

"United favourites and next 2-3 days key (nobody takes City out of equation yet). 

"Meanwhile Arsenal want to close soon deal for Aubameyang, left out of squad today [Sunday], for €60m."
