One woman died and 50 were rescued near Port Richey, Fla. — including more than a dozen from the water — after a casino boat caught fire in the Gulf of Mexico, authorities said Sunday.
Pasco County Fire Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard rescued as many as 15 people from the water, WTSP-TV reported. About 50 were on board the San Cruz casino boat when it caught fire.
Crews, including local police and officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, responded to the scene around 4:17 p.m. ET.
Several passengers were treated on shore, WTSP reported. The 42-year-old victim was not immediately taken in for treatment after the fire but was later admitted to the emergency room at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office did not immediately release her name and said the cause of death had not been determined.
The area is about 40 miles north of St. Petersburg, Fla.
