WALPOLE — “Vietnam: The Tet Offensive” will be Dr. Gary Hylander’s topic when he speaks at 7 p.m. Jan. 22 in the Community Room of the Walpole Public Library, 143 School St.
The event will be sponsored by the Friends of the Walpole Public Library, and admission is free.
Jan. 30 marks the 50th anniversary of the Tet Offensive. This was the largest campaign of the Vietnam War. Taking advantage of a cease-fire to celebrate the first day of the Vietnamese New Year holiday, Vietcong fighters launched attacks against virtually every significant target in South Vietnam. Although General Westmoreland judged the attack to be a complete military success for his forces, the more immediate impact of ‘Tet’ was political.
