Monday January 15

Antonio Conte hits back at boo boys

06:00: Antonio Conte admits there are problems in his squad after struggling to break down Leicester.

Chelsea were held to a goalless draw, as Alvaro Morata fired blanks again.

And Conte has pleaded patience from the fans, as he said: “My answer (to the booing) is this... we are doing 120 per cent and want to try to do our best.

“But, I repeat, you can win, you can lose. The most important thing is to put all your strength on the pitch. You have to consider, we are facing a lot of problems.”

PSG’s N’Golo Kante swoop

05:30: Chelsea could be set for a battle on their hands to keep hold of N’Golo Kante with Paris Saint-Germain preparing a bid in the summer.

Kante became the first player in Premier League history to win the title in consecutive years with two different clubs in 2016 after winning with Leicester and Chelsea.

He was hailed as one huge reason for both Claudio Ranieri and Antonio Conte winning the English top flight.

And his performances last season were rewarded as he was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year as well as picking up the French Player of the Year and finishing eighth in voting for the Ballon d’Or.

Conte could have another dilemma on his hands come the end of the season with French outlet Le 10 Sport claiming PSG have made Kante their top transfer target for the summer.

Andy Carroll shock move

05:00: Chelsea are reportedly stepping up their interest in bringing Andy Carroll to Stamford Bridge this month, but are only prepared to offer a loan deal.

Chelsea were held to a third consecutive goalless draw by Leicester on Saturday with Alvaro Morata continuing to struggle in front of goal.

He has now gone five matches in all competitions without finding the net and scored just twice in his last nine Premier League games.

Antonio Conte has opted against turning to back-up striker Michy Batshuayi with his future at Stamford Bridge seemingly coming to an end.

The Guardian claim Chelsea have turned their attentions on striking a deal with West Ham for Carroll.

But they are only prepared to take the 29-year-old on a six-month loan.

Antonio Conte exit

04:30: Antonio Conte has not ruled out a return to Italy for a second spell as national coach if he leaves Chelsea at the end of this season.

Conte, who blamed himself for Saturday’s draw against 10-man Leicester for picking the same ‘tired’ players just days after the Carabao Cup semi-final against Arsenal, quit as national team manager after taking Italy to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.

But Italy failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup under Giampiero Ventura in November for the first time since 1958 and he was sacked soon afterwards.

Express Sport understands senior figures at the Italian FA (FIGC) want Conte back in charge of the team.

And sources close to the 48-year-old have confirmed that the national job is currently the only one he would go back to in his home country.

But before he makes any moves, Conte wants to wait and see who the new next FIGC president is, with current incumbent Carlo Tavecchio stepping down after the World Cup debacle.
