Next Lansdale skate park meeting scheduled for Jan. 22

The next public meeting for Lansdale residents to help shape a planned local skate park will be held next week.

At 7 p.m. on Jan. 22 the borough will host the third special meeting in three months to finalize the design of a proposed park for skaters at Fourth Street Park.

“Consultants have taken feedback gathered at the previous meetings, and will be showing how those ideas can be incorporated into the design,” said an update from Lansdale Borough.

The planned skate park has been a topic of discussion since early 2016, as borough council’s parks committee evaluated numerous possible sites, chose to locate the skate park next to Fourth Street Park, adjacent to a parking lot and swimming pool already there, then hired a park design expert and landscape architect to develop the designs.

In November a first skate park open house was held to gather feedback from local skaters, and during a second meeting in December park design consultant Jesse Clayton revealed three conceptual designs, showing how skating elements such as bowls, ramps, and transitions would be located.

Feedback from that December meeting will be incorporated into the updated design to be shown on Jan. 22, and borough council members have said the plans will be vetted by staff into February, with a goal of presenting a final design to council for their approval on Feb. 21. If council approves the design that night, the project would be put out for bid in March, construction would start in early June, and the park could be finished and open by early September.

The next skate park meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan. 22 and the next council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Jan 17, both at the borough municipal building, 1 Vine St. For more information or meeting agendas and materials visit www.Lansdale.org or follow @LansdalePA on Twitter.
