Man Utd vs Stoke LIVE: Updates from Old Trafford

Caretaker manager Eddie Niedzwiecki takes charge of Stoke at Manchester United despite Paul Lambert being appointed as Mark Hughes' successor earlier today.

Stoke are 18th in the Premier League standings, a point and a place behind Southampton with a game in hand after winning five of their 22 league games.

Lambert has been tasked with turning around their fortunes, but he'll be sat in the stands rather than the dugout tonight.

"Paul greatly impressed us with his knowledge of our squad and had a clear plan of how he would improve our results," chairman Peter Coates said.

"He's a man who backed himself as a player... and it's obvious he adopts the same approach as a manager."

United are in action for the first time in 10 days.

Mourinho used the period in-between to take his team to a warm-weather training camp in Dubai where his players worked on tempo having been noticeably pedestrian in their build-up in a recent four-game winless sequence.

Speaking about the work in Dubai, full-back Luke Shaw said: "We were mainly focused on what we were doing with the ball.

"Not really defensively, it was when we have the ball, which areas we want to go to. It's all about moving the ball quickly and (Mourinho) was getting that drummed into our heads."
