With about two months until Selection Sunday, the University of Houston is picking up momentum in its bid to snap an eight-year NCAA Tournament drought.
Coming off convincing wins over Tulsa and East Carolina, the Cougars improved to 14-3 overall and 4-1 in the American Athletic Conference:
UH has a tough road game Wednesday against Tulane and then returns for one its biggest home games in years against top-10 Wichita State. In the first meeting, UH fell to Wichita State 81-63.
For the Cougars to reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010 they will need to strengthen their resume down the stretch and steal a game against Wichita State, Cincinnati or SMU. After Saturday’s game against the Shockers, the Cougars have two games remaining against Cincinnati, which currently is No. 8 in the latest KenPom Rankings.
SMU has struggled of late, but a RPI of 36 gives UH a chance to build its case down the stretch.
The only bad loss to date is against Drexel (259 in KenPom). The Cougars could also continue to get a boost if Arkansas (35) and Providence (61) continue winning.
