Kite festival spreads sanitation message

| | Jamshedpur | in Ranchi

On Sunday, the sky of the city was dotted with numerous kites as the city witnessed kite show as part of Makar Sankranti celebrations.

"I am happy to see the excitement of the people. We want to make it an annual event and want to ensure that more people join the move, " said Sanjay Kumar Pandey, special officer, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee ( JNAC)

With an objective to spread message of sanitation and revive the tradition of kite-flying, Jamshedpur Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) organised a kite festival. The local civic body, JNAC, as part of its efforts to increase involvement of masses in the Swachh Suvekshan 2018 decided to host kites festival at three different points in city, during Makar Sankranti.

The JNAC hosted the festival at Gopal Maidan (Bistupur), Aambagan Ground (Sakchi) and Sunday Market (Birsanagar) on a mass scale.

“Flying kites is an old tradition but our city will witness the show for the first time on a large scale.

Large number of families turned up on roof tops to witness kite flying. It is unique because kite flying is done at day and the sky is lit up,” said an official.
