Broome is ranked No. 3 in 3A to lead area schools in the latest polls.

Nine area wrestling teams are ranked in the top 20 of their respective classifications and more than two dozen wrestlers are listed in the top eight of their weight classes in the latest polls released by SCMat.com.

Broome is the highest-ranked team, coming in at No. 3 in the 3A classification. They are joined in the 3A rankings by Woodruff at No. 8. West-Oak leads the 3A poll.

The Centurions also have the most ranked wrestlers among local team. Broome’s Michael Brigman is ranked No. 3 at 106 pounds, and is joined by teammates Greg Phanly (No. 7, 113), K.C. Petty (No. 8, 120), Dre Smith (No. 4, 138), Anthony Gentry (No. 5, 170), Josh Smith (No. 4, 182) and Jeb Lawson (No. 5, 220).

Woodruff’s Tony Delagarza is ranked No. 4 at 113 pounds in 3A.

The top-ranked local individuals were a pair of wrestlers from Chesnee. Brandon Dasen (113 pounds) and Ford Thomas (126) were each ranked No. 1 in the combined 2A-1A poll. Jacob Aparis was ranked No. 7 at 160 pounds to help lead the Eagles to an overall No. 7 ranking. Bamberg-Erhardt leads the 2A-1A poll.

Landrum is ranked No. 15 in 2A-1A. Paul Zimmerman is No. 2 at 195 pounds, with John Zimmerman No. 3 at 220.

Dorman is ranked No. 8 in 5A, with Boiling Springs No. 12 and Byrnes No. 16. Fort Dorchester leads the poll at No. 1.

Byrnes has three ranked wrestlers, with Chris Compton (No. 2, 106), Daniel Kitts (No. 8, 132) and Warren James (No. 3, 195) all appearing in the poll. Dorman’s Wes Echols (No. 8, 113) and Adonis Lawson (No. 3, 138) are both ranked, and Boiling Springs has Drew Thomas (No. 3, 120) and Saben Heenehan (No. 6, 170) in the standings. A pair of Spartanburg wrestlers are also ranked, with Jalen Smith (No. 8, 182) and Tommy Washington (No. 3, 220) appearing in the poll.

In 4A, Union County is No. 11 and Greer is No. 20 as perennial power Eastside holds the top spot. Three Union County wrestlers are ranked in the individual poll, with Dantaye Brandon (No. 4, 160 pounds), Jerome Henry (No. 3, 182) and T.J. Hill (No. 4, Heavyweight) holding spots in the top eight.
