NCIS is on its 15th season on CBS with a mix of brand new characters and storylines to keep delivering fresh and interesting cases for its avid viewers. While this is the case, many fans could not help but hope to get some sort of closure for the so-called “TiVa” ‘ship, especially after Michael Weatherly left the series at the end of Season 13.
NCIS fans are rallying to get some closure from the Tony and Ziva storyline, as the show has left many viewers hanging. When Michael Weatherly left the CBS drama in Season 13, his character, Tony DiNozzo left his team after discovering that the love of his life, Ziva (Cote de Pablo) has died and left behind their daughter, Tali.
This story alone would have sufficed as a good enough closure to the TiVa ‘ship; however, NCIS still managed to leave some loose ends, as Tony was also informed of the possibility that Ziva faked her death and is currently hiding someplace else. This prompted Tony to leave the team in order to take care of their daughter, find some leads to search for Ziva and ultimately discover whether Ziva is still alive or if she has already left him for good.
Fast forward to two seasons and NCIS still has not given TiVa fans any answers regarding this big question. Of course, this might be the case since the show had to change its showrunners after the sudden death of Gary Glasberg in 2016. A previous interview with the former showrunner, however, shows that the drama had plans to tie these loose ends in the upcoming seasons of the show.
Speaking to TV Line, Glasberg reiterated DiNozzo’s statement: “You gotta believe what you gotta believe” when asked whether NCIS intentionally had Tony speak of Ziva in the present tense. Many fans began hoping that Ziva is still alive and is only hiding somewhere to protect their daughter.
Yes, TiVa fans definitely deserve to get their closure from NCIS, but bringing both Weatherly and de Pablo back into the mix might be a bit too difficult right now. Weatherly is currently busy with his CBS series, Bull, and taking these two back into the story might push some of its characters, especially the new ones, to the sides.
Still, TiVa fans should never lose hope and continue holding onto Glasberg and Tony’s statement on NCIS to keep on believing. As Weatherly told Digital Spy, he is not ruling out a potential return to the show and will do so “when the time is right.”
Weatherly also stated that he and de Pablo remain as good friends and continue to talk from time to time. The actor also believes that there is a good chance for him and de Pablo to reunite whether it is on NCIS or another show.
