Nantes defender Diego Carlos was tracking back in the last minute of the game when he ran into the back of the ref in their 1-0 loss to PSG last night.

It sent Chapron, 45, crashing to the ground but it appeared little more than an accident.

Although what happened next is truly incredible. Angry Chapron lost his head and kicked out at Carlos' right shin before handing the player a second yellow.

He then blew the full-time whistle three minutes later and is now poised to be in hot water with the authorities.

Nantes star Valentin Rongier fumed: "If a player does that, he gets a ten-game ban."

The French Football Federation confirmed: "Mr Tony Chapron, initially appointed for the Angers-Troyes match, has been withdrawn for the 21st Ligue 1 fixture on Wednesday January 17 until further notice.

"Chapron will shortly meet with the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) Disciplinary Committee.

"Chapron, after viewing the images, found that his fall had been caused unintentionally.

"As a result, he informed the DTA (Technical Direction of the Arbitration) that he has prepared a complementary report to this effect for the LFP Disciplinary Committee."

Chapron will not be available to officiate Wednesday's Ligue 1 relegation scrap between Angers and Troyes.

He  will also request for Carlos' second yellow card to be rescinded after acknowledging  his mistake.
