Denison Police have opened an investigation after someone stole thousands of dollars worth of property from an area church last week.
Lt. Mike Eppler said the burglary occurred between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning last week at the The Refuge, which is located in the 2300 block of West Morton Street. Eppler said church staff believe someone with access to the church grounds likely entered the building and removed a safe, electronics and gift cards.
“They think somebody with a key came in there, because there was no forced entry,” Eppler said.
The Denison Police lieutenant said during the same time frame, another break in occurred at the Blessing Box Resale Store, which he described as an outreach ministry of The Refuge.
“They didn’t have anything missing, but someone entered the building,” Eppler said. “We don’t know if that’s connected or not but it’s certainly a possibility that we’re looking into.”
Eppler said church staff have named a possible suspect.
“They’ve got somebody in mind, but no arrest yet,” Eppler said. “It’s still under investigation right now.”
