Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam working president and leader of opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly, M K Staln, said he was shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Gnani.
"Gnani functioned as independent throughout his life and his death is a huge loss to the Tamil media world," the former deputy chief minister of Tamil Nadu said, extending his condolences to the journalist's family members and friends.
Sixty four-year-old Gnani, who was suffering from kidney ailments, died at 12.30 am today. His last Facebook post was on Sunday night, which was his opinion on the 'Tuglaq' magazine anniversary that took place in the city.
His body has been kept for public homage at his residence at Alagirisami Salai at K K Nagar in the city. As per his wish, it will later be donated to a medical college hospital.
