Police say a 72-year-old man hit by a car on Friday at a pedestrian crosswalk near McMaster Medical Centre has died.

According to police, at 12 a.m. Sunday morning the man was taken off life support and passed away after donating his organs.

He was brought to hospital Friday morning with life-threatening injuries after getting hit by a car while crossing University Avenue, just west of Forsyth Avenue South.

It happened just before 7:25 a.m.

Police say a 58-year-old man was also hit, and sustained only minor injuries.

The two men were hit while inside the pedestrian crosswalk by a 60-year-old Hamilton man driving a BMW sedan.

"The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police," said a press release from police Friday.

Police say speed and alcohol are not factors in the collision.

Police are continuing to investigate.

Police are asking any witnesses who haven't spoken to police to contact Det. Const. Walter Niblock at (905) 546-4753 or Det. Const. Hendrik Vandercraats at (905) 546-4755.
