The High Court

DHAKA: The High Court on Monday (January 15) issued rules restricting all kinds of vehicle parking inside the premises of Dhaka’s New Market.

An HC bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza Ul Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah issued the order and rules following a writ petition filed by Imtiaz Ahmed, president of a human rights body ‘Shomaj er Proti Jubo Ruddho’.

Barrister ABM Altaf Hossain moved for the writ while Deputy Attorney General Tapash Kumar Biswas moved for the state.

In the rule, the court asked the authorities concerned to explain why their inaction to restrain vehicle parking in the New Market should not be declared illegal.

Moreover, the HC asked the authorities concerned to explain why legal action should not be taken against them for not restraining vehicle parking inside the market premises.

Six people including LGRD secretary and Dhaka South City Corporation chief executive were asked to respond to the rules within two weeks.
