Off to Utah in March and the desert nights are cold so I need a stuffable insulated jacket. The priority is cheap. I don't care if it is shabby, because then I don't have to be precious about it. I would prefer an older jacket from a quality brand.

I might have just the thing: Rab Andes down expedition jacket.
Size Large, made in Sheffield. I bought it new in 1999 for a 1 month trip to Nepal. It was Rab's warmest jacket at the time, and cost £500. It's too warm for this country, although if it is zero degrees outside, you just need a t-shirt underneath this thing, so quite convenient in a way ! And it's great for winter camping, sitting around when its below zero.
Comes with a ridiculously warm detachable hood, also has stuff-sack. Well cared for, washed/dried as per instructions.
I can take some photos and send them later if that helps. It's this model, but in yellow:

Washed and clean, not worn in years as it's too warm for hiking/biking/skiing etc.
The down fill is in good condition throughout. The hood is still like new.
The yellow is slightly off-colour due to being washed with a black t-shirt who's dye ran. So it's more like a gold colour than the original yellow.
Given age, will accept a quarter of what it cost, e.g. £120 inc. postage.
Please send PM if interested.

DiscJockey, thanks for the message. I think your Rab would be just too warm for what I need and in truth more than I want to pay for a jacket I won't have much ongoing need for.
